In February 2008, the Olympic Lottery Distributor Board agreed to support Live Sites and a commitment of £2.62m has been made to this project.
The Live Sites initiative will roll out the World's first linked network of permanent Public Space Broadcast screens to create a gathering place for great national, international and local occasions. It is anitcipated that these Live Sites will become pivotal to connecting the London 2012 Games to the whole of the UK.
The network of screens will be put in place by LOCOG and the £2.62m commitment made by the Olympic Lottery Distributor will fund Live sites in Bristol, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Swansea and Waltham Forest.
In December 2009, the OLD Board agreed to commit a further £800,000 to Phase II of the Live Screens project to fund two additional Live Sites screens.
The first screens were available in time for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and the network of screens will be broadened from 2008 through to 2012.
