The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place in sites across London and the UK. A map of these venues can be found on this website.
We have chosen to highlight some of the largest projects which will leave a lasting legacy after the London 2012 Games. National Lottery funding is contributing to the funding of these featured projects.
All of the projects listed below will be situated in the Olympic Park in the Lower Lea Valley, east London. Five major new sports facilities will be left in the Olympic Park after the 2012 Games.
In addition, the Olympic Village will be the home to some 17,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games and over 6,000 people during the Paralympic Games. After the Games, the Village will become part the regeneration of Stratford City which will, it is envisaged, create over 4,000 new homes, a new shopping centre, leisure facilities and office accommodation. The International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre will be to the north west of the Olympic Park. During the Games, these centres will have head office functions, administration, catering and dining facilities and will be the main centre for print media.
September 2010: London 2012 has released images of the riverbank meadow near the Olympic Stadium which is vibrant with wild flowers. The flowers - a mixture of cornflowers, marigolds, Californian poppies and prairie flowers - have been designed and sown to flower gold in time for the London 2012 Opening Ceremony.
